Kite Surfing at Cabarete Beach
Kiteboarding, if you don’t already know this, is the biggest water sport there is today. It just so happens that Cabarete is known to have the most ideal conditions for this sport, worldwide. Due to this fantastic opportunity, Cabarete is the place where some of the greatest practice kitesurfing all year round. Its main spot for kiteboarding is the officially called Cabarete Kite Beach.
Other great places for watersports reside to the west and east of Kite Beach. Bozo Beach, for example, is where the Kiteboarding World Championship (2001), World Cup (2002), and World Cup (2003) took place. Encuentro Beach is the best place for regular surfers to go in the mornings which has the best waves, or afternoon wave riding when the wind picks up. La Boca de Yasica has flat waters for kiting and is about 6 km from Cabarete. Allowing good travelling by trade winds as you head back for Cabarete.
The village of Cabarete has been built around these and many other watersports, and is very much untouched by mass tourism. Travel a mile or two in different directions. Wether by horse back, bike, or jeep, and you’ll find yourself in completely undeveloped tropical terrain.
